Put down the deer leg! Yep, I actually said that to one of my kids. But before we get to that, let me introduce myself. My name is Sara. My husband and I have been married for..umm..getting close to 30 years. And we are raising our family in rural Nebraska.

Having kids was never even on my radar of things I thought I wanted to do. In fact, we were married 10 years before the first one was born. Our goals consisted of paying off our house early and working just enough to fund our love of Caribbean travel.

But… life is a journey that takes many twists and turns. So here we are another 18+ years and two more kids into our journey. And I’ve had to make comments like “Put down the deer leg ” to a messy faced, crazy haired, blonde girl with the biggest brown eyes I’ve ever seen, as she runs across the backyard chasing the dog with a deer leg in hand.

My husband is an avid hunter and fisherman. He’s become quite skilled at processing his own meat, (hence the deer leg) including deer, pig, wild boar and the occasional pesky rooster.

It’s not uncommon to see the dog lugging around some kind of bone but apparently little kids are fascinated by them too. And me, well as little meat as I eat, I might as well be vegetarian. But we make it work.

We’ve all heard the saying that ‘Momin’ ain’t easy.’ There has never been a truer statement. I am grateful that my husband’s job pays the bills, because that allows me to be able to stay at home with the kids.

But as the cost of everyday living rises, as well as now having a kid in college, the money doesn’t go as far as it used to. And let’s face it, sometimes moms need a bit more of a creative outlet than popsicle sticks and glitter. I know , you’re all feeling it, too!

I have done occasional work as an interior painter and had a hobby photography business taking senior pictures. But I would get that overwhelming sense of mom guilt anytime I was gone too long or editing was taking too much of my time.

So as I sit here, scrolling through Pinterest or other online searches of how to supplement our income while being at home, blogging keeps coming up as an option.

I’m very new to blogging and those who know me well will agree that I am not a writer, I don’t even like to read. I am not a storyteller, or much of a talker, and I don’t people very well. I’m the quiet, creative, sort of artsy type that’s totally fine being alone, doing my own thing.

So why in the world would I give blogging a try?! Simply for that very reason. To push myself past the constraints of my own comfort zone, to fulfill that creative need, to prove to myself that I can do new and scary things.

I am by no means an expert on anything. Like many of you, I know a little bit about a lot of things. So as we take this journey together, I’ll share a few family stories, and my random thoughts and tips on home decor, being a girl mom, homeschooling 3 kids, and what the heck to make dinner. I hope you come back and join me again!
